"Constitution" for seas and oceans

All marine legislation comes under the 'umbrella' of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), drawn up in Montego Bay on December 10, 1982 and ratified in Belgium by the law of 18 June 1998.

This convention may rightly be considered the (written) constitution defining the system governing the seas and the oceans at world level.
